Profile of Shandong Provincial Hospital

Shandong Provincial Hospital (SPH) is located in Jinan, the capital city of Shandong Province, well-known for its natural springs. Established in 1897, SPH has developed into a large-scale general hospital, which specialized in medical treatment, medical teaching, scientific research, disease prevention, healthcare and provision of professional guidance to the sub-level hospitals and clinics based in Shandong Province.

 

The SPH's 2,500 personnel include a nursing stuff of 1300 and a medical staff of 600 doctors. There are 1600 beds in SPH. Approximately over 1.3 million outpatient visits have been dealt with per annum by 66 departments of SPH. A telemedicine center provides long-distance medical service at the same time.

 

SPH is a teaching hospital of Shandong University School of Medicine. Annually, about 350 medical and pharmaceutical students study in SPH for their M.D. or Ph.D., and more than 500 nursing students do their clinical practice here. Shandong Continuing Medical Education Center is an important part of SPH, each year more than 500 physicians, clinical and research fellows, nurses, and technicians from almost all of the areas in China come to SPH to further their education.

 

SPH has introduced various advanced facilities and equipment from GE, Siemens and Philips for better medical diagnosis and treatment. There are more than 500 sets of medical equipment & laboratory apparatus, each of them costing more than US$10,000, e.g. GE LS PET/CT Scanner, 64-layer Helical CT Scanner, MRI, linear accelerator.

 

The Medical Research Center and the Animal Lab provides sophisticated apparatus and instruments for professionals to perform clinical or basic research. In recent five years, SPH¡¯s total research grants reach a record high of 16 million RMB (about 2 million US$) for more than 200 national and regional programs. The total number of publications by SPH professionals ranks No 1 among the same level general hospitals in China.

 

We also maintain and develop the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Herbs are being used to cure  various diseases. Many featured traditional therapies, e.g. massage and acupuncture have better effects for the rehabilitation of some illness such as lumbar vertebrae disorder, child¡¯s paralysis and diarrhea.

 

SPH welcomes international exchange and cooperation. We receive about 100 oversea experts and visitors from all over the world and more than 80 professionals of SPH have had the opportunities to attend various overseas academic conferences and 20 have received further training in the medical schools or hospitals around the world per annum. Up till now, SPH has established cooperative relationship with many hospitals, medical universities and research institutions of the United States of America, Australia, Canada, Singapore, South Korea and many European Countries, for example, Advocate Children¡¯s Hospital, Memorial Hermann Hospital System of USA, National University Hospital of Singapore, Queensland University of Technology of Australia and Aahus University Hospital of Denmark have become the partners of SPH.
