Shandong Provincial Hospital was founded in 1897 by Germans, originally known as the Wanguo Union Charity Hospital. During the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, the hospital was called Jinan Hospital of the Japanese Tongren Association. In 1945, the Clinic at Shandong Provincial Government of the Kuomintang was renamed Shandong Provincial Hospital and took over Japan Dojinkai Jinan Hospital in the same year. The People's Government of Shandong province renamed it to Shandong Provincial Hospital and East China International Peace Hospital in November, 1948. East China International Peace Hospital was once a hospital directly under the Department of Health of the New Fourth Army, one origin of Shandong Provincial Hospital.

After People's Republic of China was founded in 1949, the Hospital was successively named Shandong Provincial First Hospital, Shandong Provincial Hospital and Shandong Provincial People's Hospital. In 1982, Shandong Provincial People's Government named the Hospital as Shandong Red Cross Hospital. In 1984, the Hospital was renamed Shandong Provincial Hospital approved by the Provincial Compilation Office. In 2007, the Provincial Department of Health and the Provincial Department of Education jointly issued a document, approving the brand of the Provincial Hospital Affiliated to Shandong University. In the same year, the Shandong Provincial Hospital Group was unveiled. The Provincial Hospital Affiliated to Shandong First Medical University was unveiled in July, 2019.
